82-93 CHEVY/GMC S-Series Pickups Tailgate Handle Relocater Kit with weld-in filler plate. Installation Instructions: For best results, please read all instructions thoroughly prior to attempting installation of your Sir Michael's tailgate handle relocater. Sir Michael's recommends the use of approved hand, eye and ear safety equipment while performing this installation. If you have any questions concerning the installation of your Sir Michael's tailgate handle relocater, please contact Sir Michael's customer service department. 1. Remove the tail gate from the truck and place face down across saw horses or on work bench. 2. Remove the three screws that hold the handle in place, then unhook the rods and remove the handle from the tailgate. 3. Remove both end latches and rods from the tailgate. Some rods have rubber pads attached to them, you may discard these pads because they are not needed anymore. 4. Place template in the center of the back side of the tailgate and line up the three holes on the template with the three holes on the tailgate. Trace out the dotted line and cut this area out using a die griner with a cutting disc or a jigsaw. We suggest using a 5/16-inch drill bit and drilling four holes (one in each corner), then use the grinder or jigsaw to cut out this area. Note: If you are not using a smooth tailgate skin, care must be taken not to cut through to the outer skin. The from spot welded brace must be cut as well. 5. Bolt the handle relocater bracket using the one factory bolt and the two cinch studs provided in the kit. Then set the assembly into the tailgate and hook up the rods. Before the rods are put back in the tailgate, they must be switched from side to side. 6. Use a 1/8-inch drill bit and drill the 10 mounting holes in the tailgate, then use the supplied screws to mount the relocater bracket to the tailgate. 7. Place supplied handle filler plate over existing hole and tack weld into place. We recommend a mig (wire feed) welder. NOTE: Welding one continuous line will cause tailgate to warp. Tack a small area, let cool and repeat until complete. 8. Grind down the welds and finish off with body filler, block sand, primer and paint. Now you are ready to re-install the tailgate back onto the truck.
