Sir Michaels 2004-up FORD F-150 Tailgate Handle Relocater Kit

2004-up FORD F-150 Tailgate Handle Relocater Kit with weld-in filler plate.

Installation Instructions:

For best results, please read all instructions thoroughly prior to attempting installation of your Sir Michael's tailgate handle relocater. Sir Michael's recommends the use of approved hand, eye and ear safety equipment while performing this installation. If you have any questions concerning the installation of your Sir Michael's tailgate handle relocater, please contact Sir Michael's customer service department.

1. Remove the tail gate from the truck and set it upside down on a flat surface.
2. Remove the inspection plate from the back side of the tailgate by using a #T40 head socket
3. Remove the latch rods from the latch mechanism, then remove the handle and latch mechanism by removing the two 10mm nuts that hold it to the tailgate.
4. Using a cut-off wheel, cut the tailgate, inspection plate and inner brace using included template A & B. The relocater will sit into the tailgate.
5. Once you have cut your tailgate and inspection plate, re-attach the inspection plate to the tailgate using factory T40 bolts.
6. Set your Sir Michael's handle relocater into the hole on the back side of the tailgate. Making sure it is centered, mark the mounting holes. Using a 1/8-inch drill bit, drill four pilot holes for mounting.
7. Install your factory handle into your new Sir Michael's handle relocater by slipping the handle into the relocater, then attach the latch mechanism to the back of the relocater using the factory 10mm nuts.
8. Install the relocater by connecting the latch rod. NOTE: Since the handle is now on the opposite side, the rods will now need to do the same. Top rod to bottom / bottom rod to top. Attach your Sir Michael's handle relocater to the tailgate by using the supplied #8 TEC screws.
9. Place supplied handle filler plate over existing hole and spot weld into place. We recommend a mig (wire feed) welder. NOTE: Welding one continuous line will cause tailgate to warp. Tack a small area, let cool and repeat until complete.
10. Grind down the welds and finish off with body filler, block sand, primer and paint. Now you are ready to re-install the tailgate back onto the truck.
